OUR TAKE / EDITORIAL OPINION
Automated maintenance should have a written trigger policy
LNDg is most useful when channel metrics support decisions the operator can predict and review.
LNDg’s repository documents LND data analysis, channel-performance metrics, and node-management automation. Our view is that analysis and action should remain distinguishable even when one interface offers both. The operator should know which observation triggers a change, why that threshold exists, and when the policy should be suspended. A busy automation log is not our definition of a well-managed node.
The likely fit is an LND operator with a specific maintenance routine they want to make more consistent. The tradeoff is fewer repetitive interventions against the effort of choosing and maintaining sensible rules. We would start by observing a proposed policy before allowing it to act automatically. That would make it possible to compare intended behavior with the operator's actual judgment on representative cases.
Before relying on LNDg, we would inspect the relevant metric definitions and current automation settings, then test a boundary case in an appropriate environment. We would also document the pause procedure and the records needed to explain an action later. These are proposed checks, not live-node results. The strongest case for LNDg is a policy that becomes easier to review and repeat, not merely easier to leave running.
