OUR TAKE / EDITORIAL OPINION
Privacy-oriented integration still needs ordinary product engineering
Payjoin Dev Kit should be evaluated through wallet behavior, interoperability, and a clear failure path.
Payjoin documentation describes PDK as a Rust library for wallet integration and Payjoin-cli as a reference implementation. Our thesis is that a wallet team should first define the transaction experience it wants to support. A protocol integration needs understandable user states, clear boundaries, and a plan for when the intended interaction cannot complete. The engineering brief should be concrete before the team adopts the library.
The likely fit is a developer adding Payjoin to an existing Bitcoin wallet or service. The tradeoff is reuse of specialist components against responsibility for the surrounding application behavior. We would identify which parts of the flow are handled by PDK and which remain with the wallet, then review how those parts interact with current signing and recordkeeping practices. A reference implementation is helpful evidence of intended usage, not proof that a different integration is complete.
Before selection, we would prototype a narrow workflow and test it against the exact counterpart implementations the product expects to encounter. We would also make the fallback or failure state explicit to the user. These are proposed tests, not measured results. PDK earns its place when it supports a well-defined integration whose limitations the team can explain.
